Dear Diary, Hello there and Happy New Year! The year is off to a great start for this Avian Guru. I'm so sorry that it's been nearly a month since my last update. You see, my faithful owner recently had to have a root canal, so I didn't want to bother her to help me type out an entry. Now she's feeling much better, though, and she was happy to help due to my lack of thumbs and all... So what have I been up to, you ask? Oh, not too much, just the usual Avian Guru stuff....meet and greets, autographs, etc. Then after a long hard day of being cute, I just come home and relax. You know, play with my toys in one of my two beautiful cages, and have a snack fit only for royalty. It's a hard life, but someone's gotta live it, right? Speaking of toys...I got a new one and it's *so* fun! It's made of rainbow rawhyde knots and it's got a bell. Wanna see?... |
It's sooo much fun...I can swing, climb, chew, play music....it's like a one-stop fun-filled adventure! I can play on it for hours (and usually do!) Oh, I have some sad news :( You see, my faithful owner is going on a trip to Canada for a little while, and for some strange reasons, Customs doesn't want me to go with her. So (cue happier music) I get to stay with her Mommy and Daddy in New Jersey, which will be loads of fun! They have a cockateil (my cousin) named Tweetie Roudent Peebous. My owner, Joy, got Tweetie when she was only 8 years old (hence the odd and bizzarely long name). He's fun to play with and share fortune cookies with (though I get the bigger half, cause I'm cuter. Shhh!) So anywho, it will be sad because I'll miss Joy so much while she's gone, but I'm sure I'll have lots of fun playing with my cousin! I'll be sure to take some pictures of us together for you. Speaking of pictures, I'm sure you want some more recent ones of yours truly. Okay, okay....here you go... |

Dear Diary, Hello! I know it's been forever since I've updated you, but guess what? My pet human Joy is finally home! Yay! Which means, now she's able to help me write a long awaited update to my trusty diary. You see, I don't know if I've ever told you this, but in an embarrassing twist of fate, I seem to have been born without opposable thumbs, which makes typing a bit of a challenge. Luckily, Joy helps me whenever I have computer work to do! Boy did I miss Joy, but let me tell you...I had *tons* of fun! I took baths, ate all kinds of yummy treats, hung out with my cousin, Tweetie... Wait just a minute--I don't think you've ever seen my cousin. Well lucky for you, I've got pictures! Here we are... |
We had such a fun time together! Joy's Mommy and Daddy took such good care of me...it was like a vacation the whole time--they spoiled me rotten, but shhh...don't tell Joy or she won't ever bring me back! I was so excited when Joy got home, not just to see her, but because a few days after she got her, you would not believe what arrived... NEW FLIGHTSUITS! I was so excited when I saw a package from Wanda that I pooped! You should see these beautiful suits (and you will, because I have pictures!) The one suit is the snazzy disco suit, which is right up my alley! And wait till you see the other...You know how much I love the Earth, right? Well I do! I think it's very important to be kind to our planet and I wish that the whole world would see the light and "Go Green". Sooo, to help me express my love for the environment, I actually have a going green outfit now. Wanna see? Okay, okay....here you go... |

I know a lot you reading out there are probably saying to yourself 'wait a minute, I love our planet, how come Socrates the Great gets a special going green suit and I don't?' Well you can, too! You see, Wanda is giving everyone a chance to express their love for the Earth! Isn't she nice? Well, with all of the excitement over the past week, I need some rest. Even a guru needs a nap now and then. I promise I'll write again soon, though, now that my pet human is finally home. Dear Diary, Hi there! I do hope everything is going well out there in diaryland! Things here are going great--nonstop fun! It's summertime here now and that's my most favorite time of the year. My pet human, Joy, takes me outside to sit on the patio and it's so much fun. Of course, it is sad for the birds out there...they look at me and you can tell they're intimidated by my overwhelming attractiveness. I think they wish they could be as cute as me, but I try to explain that not every bird can be as externally gifted as myself. I try to boost their confidence by saying I'm sure they're nice on the inside, but you know, I don't think they speak my language (Avian Guru is a tough language to master after all). Oh well! You know what my favorite part about the summer is? 4 words: CORN ON THE COB! And I've been gettin LOTS of it! Joy gives it to me once or twice a week....nice and fresh. MMmmmm MMmmm! But oh wait, there's been more to my exciting summer (and it's not even half over yet!). I got new flightsuits! What's that you say...you want pictures? Okay, okay! Here you go... |
I was so excited to get *another* suit to show off my appreciation for the Earth. And the Clover Meadow Original suit is perfect for this season...I get to look all spiffy in white! So if I were you, I'd keep checking here and on the eBay storefront because I have a feeling these special suits are coming *very* soon! But shhhh....this is top secret...you absolutely didn't hear it from me! |
<resuming normal volume> Well, let's see, what else has been going on? I talked about the playing outside, the corn, the new suits. I think I covered everything. Dear Diary, Well hello there and happy mid-summer! It's been nothing but good times here, let me tell ya! Everyone knows that summer is my favorite season--outings outside, road trips in the sun, and corn on the cob. All of my favorite things! Last night was ESPECIALLY exciting! Joy came home with a surprise--Chinese Food! MMMmmmm! She goes to a special place that uses no MSG and gets a yummy steamed veggie dish for me. It's delicious! But everyone knows the best part of Chinese Food is the fortune cookie. I *love* fortune cookies. Now I never used to believe in the fate of the cookie, until tonight. Guess what my fortune was? I'll have to show you or you won't believe it... |
You read it right--"Handsome is that handsome does." Now obviously that was written just for me. Trust in the fate of the cookie! I'm a believer! |
Let's see, what other exciting news do I have? Well, Joy got a new digital camera, so we've been doing lots of photo shoots. Want to see the "handsome" guru? Of course you do...even the cookie does! So here you go!... |

And here I am eating an almond on the terrace. I love almonds and Joy goes to a special store to find them in the shell for me, because everyone knows that taking them out of the shell is half the fun! |

Dear Diary, Well, it's that time of year again! Now I know you've all seen my SuperSocrates costume and my frightening SocraSpider costume of Halloweens past....and it's hard to live up to the expectations that I'm sure everyone has by now. BUT, don't you worry....I, Socrates the Great, shall not disappoint my devoted fans this year. I know the anticipation is killing you all, so even though Halloween is still a week away, I'll keep you waiting no longer. Without further adieu, I unveil my 2008 Halloween costume... Dear Diary, Happy Hatch Day to ME! Happy Hatch Day to ME! Happy Hatch Day to Meeeeeee......Happy Hatch Day to ME! As everyone knows, today is the best day of the year--my Hatch Day! That's right, today I turned the big 0-3! Boy, was it an exciting day! We just arrived here in New Jersey for the holidays, so I was already excited to see Joy's Mommy and Daddy...then tonight--PARTY! First, there was the Hatch Day feast of some of my favorite foods: Tri-color cheese tortellini with marinara sauce (with lots of extra fresh veggies) sprinkled in parmesean cheese. Mmmmm Mmmm! Then, there was the special Hatch Day treat--a little Socrates-size Pecan Pie! I kid you not! And you know how I love my pecans! It was DELICIOUS! Then, as if that weren't enough--PRESENTS! I was in heaven, because the presents were even decked out with curly ribbon! I wish you all could have been there. But wait, there are pictures--the next best thing.... |
So you can see what an exciting Hatch Day it's been for me! Look at all of those amazing presents! I got a toy, yogurt almonds, a treat stick, dried pineapple, and two huge bags of fruit and trail mix. Yummy! And the best part is, Christmas is only two days away--MORE PRESENTS! Boy I sure do love this time of year! It makes me a tired tired boy, though. So off to the hut I go, to get my first beauty sleep as a big 3 year old! Nighty-night everyone! |
